Pray for our nation!

When I was a little boy at Woodhill Elementary School here in Gastonia, we started each day of class with these familiar words,

“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

The strength of our Nation can be found in the beauty of this pledge.

America began as the United states, not the Divided states. Regardless of where our ancestors came from, millions have entered this country as immigrants and became Americans.

We believe in that ideal of “liberty and justice for all.” Since we had already declared all men to be created equal, it was right to further declare that all men deserved liberty and justice. Lady Justice, a statue of a blindfolded woman with scales in one hand and a sword in the other, serves as a symbol for American courts of law. That affirms the standard of fair and impartial judgment, regardless of race, creed, color, or socio-economic status.

This is the commitment we make when we look to the stars and stripes of America. When we as a nation live up to the ideals of the pledge, every one of us reaps the benefits of a just and free society. We experience the favor of God upon the land. The Scripture is clear, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD” (Psalm 33:12). The tacit antithesis is also clear, “Cursed is the nation whose God is not.”

There is no doubt that the heart of the human problem is the problem of the human heart!!

What is the answer? We desperately need to search within, confess any sin, and get right with God. We need to repent of any evil thoughts, words, deeds, and attitudes. Then we need to pray for God to intervene. We need to pray for the protection of our citizens, law enforcement officers, and our first responders. We need to earnestly pray for liberty and justice to come to every single American.

The answer to all of life’s problems always starts with God. He is the great problem solver and the Savior of all men. May we humbly seek His face in the midst of tremendous trouble and unrest. He is the HOPE WE NEED!
